"When An Inner Situation Is Not Made Conscious, It Happens Outside, As Fate."  – Carl Jung

Shadow work therapy

Jung famously talked about our shadow self.  Projection happens when we encounter something that is too painful for our ego to handle so we project that burden onto someone else.   It can be extremely challenging work: potent shame, guilt, rage and terror along with unprocessed traumas are often at the core of this type of work.

You may have heard about the psychological defense called projection. It happens because that projection is too painful for our ego to bear so it puts their burden on someone else.

So why in the hell would anyone actually choose to do this?

If you ever find yourself wondering something to the effect of, “not THIS again?!?  Why does this keep happening to me?”  Or, maybe a person leaves one bad partner for another, but the new one is just as bad.  Maybe this has happened more than twice? Shadow Work helps you break subconscious patterns that can be difficult to notice, let alone break.

Just as anything in sunlight casts a shadow, our minds project our own shadow onto others.  You may have heard about the psychological defense called projection.  It happens because that projection is too painful for our ego to bear so it puts their burden on someone else. This can result in a pattern of repeating this little life lesson and we get stuck. Another way to look at it is examining what we do on autopilot without really thinking about our thoughts/actions.

Shadow work challenges us to grow and claim our own personal power.  All too often we blame others for our situation.  It is one thing to understand the cause and effects of another person’s actions. It is another thing to understand what our role was and how we may have contributed to our own suffering.  Unlike Victim Blaming, Shadow work challenges us to take ownership appropriately while also letting go of what is not our fault while building boundaries to help us not repeat the same mistake we historically may have done. Schedule today to start breaking the cycle.
