Do you need more than just talk in the therapy office?
Healing has to go beyond talk or just developing strategies for changing the problems plaguing you that have been there for years.
While you may have been able to get past that horrible time, if the problem was bad enough you might be feeling it’s more like the past won’t let go of you.
Or, you may be thinking, “Ok, I’ve taken some time to try to recover and I did that, now what?”
Sometimes you need the right tool for the right job to get you the results you want. Therapy is no different, you need the right method to get the right healing.
What Is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and it’s one therapy I am extremely passionate about because it can really work well when used appropriately.
In the end, EMDR is a tool. It is important to realize what it is and what it is not.
It is not a cure all or magic bullet. Nor is it a gimmick that will fade with time.
It takes time and energy to make major life changes that you may have been living with for years.
EMDR can greatly accelerate that change when more traditional talk therapies can take years to get results.
It starts with targeting a limiting belief you have that spawned from a bad life event that altered your being for the worse and then helps the brain reprogram itself in a way that releases that stuck energy while implanting a positive belief that you choose to try to replace it with.
While it can sound like a miracle, it’s actually based on extensive scientific tests on how our right and left sides of the brain work and how trauma affects our brain and nervous system.

What can EMDR do for you?
Evidence shows that EMDR can be effective in treating many of the mental health problems people deal with including:
- anxiety, including test taking anxiety and other stresses
- athletic performance enhancement
- depression
- PTSD
- childhood abuse
- sexual abuse
- grief
- phobias
- reducing chronic pain
- changing limiting beliefs
EMDR is not a complete therapy on its own. In my practice, I use it alongside other modalities that support the releasing work accomplished with EMDR.
